Tooth loss can occur due to a variety of reasons
- Dental and gum disease - The most common reason for tooth loss is gum (periodontal) disease. Infection of the tooth supporting structures gradually destroys tooth support and ultimately tooth may be lost if not intervened. Dental caries (decay) can also progress to such an extent that the tooth is no longer salvageable and needs to be removed to prevent further spread of infection.
- Trauma - Teeth can be "knocked out" from trauma, such as in an accident or assault. Teeth may break or fracture in such a way that they must be extracted. This can also happen due to teeth clenching and grinding habits (bruxing).
- Congenital absence – Sometimes teeth may be missing by birth. The baby teeth may appear but the permanent teeth may be missing.
- Other health conditions- Apart from gum diseases, some health conditions like diabetes and osteoporosis may affect tooth support and bone density. Deterioration of support may result in tooth loss.
Consequences of tooth loss
Besides health problems, missing teeth lead to unsightly gaps in a smile. This affects appearance and decreases self-confidence. Tooth loss causes
- Speech problems
- Problems in chewing leading to avoiding some foods
- Social embarrassment
- Anxiety and self-consciousness
- Movement and weakening of remaining teeth and their possible loss
- Nutrition problems
- If baby teeth are lost early, there is no sufficient space for the adult teeth to erupt and leads to teeth malalignment.
In order to prevent all those problems, there are many options for tooth rehabilitation:
Fixed Dental Crowns and Bridges
A crown is a hollow cap that is fixed onto a tooth and covers it entirely. It is used in cases where there is lack of tooth structure or for a tooth that is weakened by decay, damage or is discolored. They are also usually required after Root Canal Therapy. A crown can be placed to strengthen the tooth or to improve its appearance, shape or alignment.
A bridge is used to a fixed replacement for one or more missing teeth. Teeth neighboring the empty space are used as anchors to place a bridge. Crowns and bridges may also be fixed upon dental implants.
We specialize in metal-free porcelain crowns and bridges that are translucent and very closely resemble your other natural teeth. Being metal-free, there is no ugly grey line at the edge as seen in the case of older metal based crowns. |

We also specialize in Zirconium crowns and bridges that are durable and esthetic. We use this latest advanced technology in cosmetic dentistry with great results and its esthetics & strength is exemplary. The look of zirconia is so close to natural teeth that it is hard to tell the difference. It is also a very strong substance that can endure wear and tear. It allows light to pass through as a normal tooth would and that gives a natural look, unlike other metal cores that block the light.

Zirconium crowns have become the preferred choice for dental crowns.
We employ sophisticated CAD CAM technology for precise and accurate crown and bridge work.
Crowns and bridges are permanently fixed to natural teeth. They are very easy to maintain, just like brushing natural teeth, crowns and bridges can be brushed too.
Removable Dentures
-
Removable partial denture
These are removable replacement for missing teeth. There are two types of dentures-complete and partial. Complete dentures are used when all the teeth are missing. Partial dentures are used when some natural teeth are still remaining. Our Prosthodontists specialize in dentures that resemble natural teeth helping our patients eat and speak better. Dentures fill out the appearance of the face and profile improving appearance and smile.

Unlike fixed crowns and bridges, dentures are not permanently fixed. They have to be removed every night and placed in denture solution or water. These prosthesis have to be cleaned everyday. Occasionally they may lead to gum sores. If dentures are loose fitting, it causes difficulty in chewing, eating and speech. Denture slipping causes embarrassment and loss of self confidence.
Dental implants
These are an excellent treatment option. An implant is an artificial root that is anchored to the bone and on which a crown is placed. It looks and feels like a real tooth and does not require other teeth for support.
Alignment of crooked, crowded and malaligned teeth
Nothing enhances your smile and boosts your self-esteem like orthodontic treatment. Improve your appearance and dental health with a straight, confident smile! Straight teeth not only make your smile attractive but also decrease the chances of tooth decay and gum diseases.
Besides the traditional metal braces, our teeth straightening or orthodontic specialty offers many options.
Invisible or Tooth colored braces
We specialize in orthodontic treatments with ceramic brackets that blend with your natural tooth color. The braces are less noticeable and don’t give you a “metallic smile”.
Lingual orthodontics
We also offer newer types of braces that are placed behind the teeth (on the inside surface) called lingual orthodontics. These modern braces are out of view and esthetically pleasing even during the course of the treatment.
Self-ligating braces
In the above mentioned treatments, the patient needs to come for regular check-ups every month. For some patients including students staying in residential schools and colleges or patients coming from far-off places, who find frequent visits inconvenient, we offer the latest advanced technology in teeth alignment called self-ligating braces.
By adopting this method, the patient has the convenience for visiting our specialist of just once in three to four month intervals,as the braces adapts itself to aligning, and it does not require frequent monitoring & adjustments as compared to that of monthly check ups of the former braces.
When there is slight or moderate tooth decay, i.e. decay is only limited to the enamel or dentine, then decay can be removed and the tooth can be restored with tooth colored filling.
When tooth decay (dental caries) is extensive and has progressed deeper into the tooth, it reaches the pulp chamber affecting the nerves and blood vessels. Such conditions may cause severe toothache, difficulty in biting, chewing and if not intervened, it may even cause swelling and infection around the tooth.
Root Canal Treatment
Root Canal Treatments (RCT) are performed by our endodontic specialists to treat severely decayed teeth. They specialize in quick and painless treatment. The decayed tooth structure is removed. Using specialized intricate instruments, the pulp chamber is cleaned and all infections are removed. Automated instruments and instant digital X-rays may be used to gauge the root length.
The pulp space is disinfected and filled with a permanent, inert material to salvage the tooth and normal functioning.
Post and Core
Sometimes, when a tooth has broken off due to fracture or decay, there may not be enough of natural tooth remaining to place a crown. We specialize in replacing tooth structure even in cases of extensive damage. A post and core is an advanced treatment option. It consists of a “post” that is placed inside the root canal chamber of a tooth. At the tip of the post a “core” is placed. This builds up the top of the tooth in order to hold a crown. The post and core is permanently placed inside the tooth and provides an ideal anchor to which the crown is fixed.
Apicoectomy
In cases where a tooth has been infected for a very long time & no treatment has been sought, there may develop a severe infection at the root tip. In such cases, an apicoectomy may be done. In this procedure, the gum tissue near the tooth is opened to see the underlying bone and to remove any infected tissue. The infected portion of the root-tip is also removed and the root canal sealed completely to ensure no seepage of infection into the canal.
Oral prophylaxis – scaling and polishing
Diseases of the gums or gingivitis and periodontitis cause many problems including bad breath, bleeding gums, tooth loosening and tooth loss. Improper oral hygiene or certain disease conditions cause gums to become swollen and infected. Accumulation of plaque or tartar gradually infects the gums and disease progresses. Early intervention is highly recommended.
We specialize in diagnosis and therapy of various diseases affecting gums, bones and teeth supporting structures. Routine oral prophylaxis includes scaling and polishing to remove bacterial plaque and tartar from the teeth surfaces. It is mainly performed to prevent decay and other oral complications.
We use automatic ultrasonic scaling instruments and high-tech devices. Getting an oral prophylaxis done on a regular basis helps fight tooth decay, gum disease and staining.
Curettage and Periodontal flap surgery/gum surgery
We have many treatment options for gum diseases (periodontitis) depending on the severity of the disease. To eliminate gum infection, our expert treatment options range from scaling, curettage, deep cleaning under the gums (root planning) to gingival flap surgery.

Cosmetic or esthetic dentistry has a tremendous effect not only on appearance and self esteem but also maintains and improves health of the mouth, jaws and jaw joint. There are many different ways you can improve your smile using modern cosmetic dentistry.
Tooth colored filling-LCR
We place a very special emphasis on restorative cosmetic dentistry. This specialty deals with removing decayed, worn out or damaged tooth structure and filling the tooth with an inert material that closely resembles the color of your natural teeth.
We use advanced techniques to place beautiful, unnoticeable white fillings. These fillings, called composites or Light -Cure Composite Resin, are safe and superior to Silver Amalgam fillings. Besides filling cavities, composites can also be used to repair small chips or flaws on teeth, close small gaps between teeth (e.g. small diastema closure). You can transform your smile to a healthy, clean looking, whiter smile by replacing old Silver Amalgam fillings.
Damaged and discolored teeth
Dental crowns can be used to improve a wide variety of cosmetic dental problems for example severe discoloration, chipped teeth, gaps between teeth, misshaped or uneven teeth. Chipped, cracked or broken teeth can be repaired.
Smile makeovers - Ceramic camouflage
Porcelain or Zirconia crowns are very natural looking and are fitted onto a tooth like a cap. They are made of a color shade precisely matching that of your natural teeth.
The prosthesis are custom-made in our in-house Prosthetic laboratory by highly trained technicians. These prosthesis give you a brilliant, natural esthetic result.
In some cases of crooked teeth, conventional orthodontic treatment to straighten teeth may not be feasible. In such instances, Porcelain or Zirconia crowns can be placed to make teeth appear straight.
Nothing boosts your appearance and self-confidence like a beautiful smile! One of the best ways to enhance your smile is tooth whitening or tooth bleaching.
Teeth may be stained due to excessive consumption of tea, coffee or red wine, smoking or use of certain medications like tetracyclines during teeth development. A tooth may darken over time or discolor following root canal treatment. To remove these discolorations, teeth bleaching or whitening is advised.
Discolored teeth can be made shades lighter with professional teeth whitening. Our cosmetic dentistry specialists work on giving you whiter teeth and healthier smiles. We have proven teeth whitening solutions that won’t aggravate any sensitivity.
Teeth bleaching can be done in two ways- a professional in-office method or at-home technique. The in-office method uses a light activated gel to whiten your teeth. This method is more effective and results are seen immediately. Or we can make custom-made whitening trays for you which you can use to apply the whitening gels to your teeth in the comfort of your home.
Teeth bleaching only can change the color of natural tooth, the color of existing fillings or crowns cannot be changed. Therefore their renewal is often needed to adjust to the new color.
Our hospital is equipped with the latest dental LASER technology. LASERs are employed to disinfect and prepare optimal root canals for efficient root canal fillings. Excellent soft tissue repair is provided to patients with periodontal LASER surgeries done in a complete blood less field. They are also used in teeth whitening procedures. LASERs facilitate quick, painless, stress free and noise free dental treatment.
Prevention of dental and gum diseases
Our specialists are distinctively trained to develop a combination of clinic and home preventive care to ensure your child a happy smile.
After thorough oral examination and assessing your child’s risk for developing cavities, our specialists design a personalized preventive program for your child. Tooth cleaning and polishing and fluoride treatments if required, are part of our prevention program. We also educate our patients giving them brushing and flossing instructions & diet counseling.
Preventive dentistry involves application of sealants to grooves on teeth. This prevents invasion of disease-causing bacteria and extensive tooth decay can be avoided. It will also help keep your tooth natural and un-damaged.
There are several changes that may occur as the person grows old like wearing of teeth, root decay, gum diseases, discoloration of teeth, dry mouth, changes in tastes, oral ulcerations, gingival bleeding etc. Reactions of common diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular and liver diseases, gastrointestinal diseases etc, or certain medications taken to control diseases have their effect in oral cavity.
We specialize in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dental problems specific to the aged.
For extremely anxious, nervous patients or for those who are exceedingly frightened of dental treatment or have a dental phobia, we have sedation dentistry or sleep dentistry facility. This technique helps to relax the patient making them feel lesser pain and discomfort. There are many types of conscious sedation that may be used depending on the level of anxiety and phobia.
