Teeth are built to last a life time, but due to neglect and disease we often see people loosing teeth. The options of restoring lost teeth have been there for a long time like bridges and dentures, and none of them would get their support from the jaw bones like our natural teeth does.
Dental implants can be used either to replace one or multiple lost teeth. In an ideal situation even a completely edentulous patient can receive complete fixed teeth using full mouth rehabilitation by dental implants.
Single Tooth Implants
Single-tooth implants can be used in people who are missing one or more teeth. An implant is surgically placed in an opening that is made by your dentist in the jawbone. After the implant integrates (attaches) to your bone, it acts as a new “root” for the crown that will be replacing your missing tooth. A crown (cap), which is made to look like a natural tooth, is attached to the implant and fills the space left in the mouth by the missing tooth.
An implant-supported bridge is similar to a regular dental bridge, but it is supported by implants and not by natural teeth. In most cases, when an implant-supported bridge is used, one implant is placed in the jawbone for each missing tooth. Then the crowns are connected to each other to form one piece.
An implant-supported denture is a type of over denture that is supported by and attached to implants. A regular denture rests on the gums, and is not supported by implants.
An implant-supported denture is used when a person doesn’t have any teeth in the jaw, but has enough bone in the jaw to support implants. An implant-supported denture has special attachments that snap onto attachments on the implants.
If you are missing all of your teeth, an implant-supported full bridge or full denture can replace them. Dental implants will replace both your lost natural teeth and some of the roots.
Dental implants provide several advantages over other teeth replacement options. In addition to looking and functioning like natural teeth, implant-supported full bridges or dentures are designed to be long lasting. Implant-supported full bridges and dentures also are more comfortable and stable than conventional dentures, allowing you to retain a more natural biting and chewing capacity.
A lost tooth can be restored by artificial tooth and adjacent healthy teeth is taken support bridging the gap in between the natural tooth with an artificial tooth. it’s a fixed unit there is no need to remove it for maintenance.
In case where replacing lost teeth is not possible with fixed prosthesis a removable denture can be used.
Dentures are prosthetic devices constructed to replace missing teeth, and which are supported by surrounding soft and hard tissues of the oral cavity. Conventional dentures are removable; however there are many different denture designs, some which rely on bonding to dental implants.
The dentures can be placed over the implants and can construct a fixed prosthesis for your jaw; a removable over denture may be designed to fit over the implants. While it is removable by you, it can be secured to the abutments by various types of attachments or magnets.
Advanced dentures are available at Dr Arul's Dental, Facial Plastic, Hair Transplant Surgeries, which use BPS (bio functional prosthetic system).
