indications-for-restylane

All natural cosmetic dermal fillers are designed to restore volume and fullness to the skin to correct facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds (the lines from the outside of the nose to the mouth.)

Fillers are used most commonly for Cosmetic Procedures involving:

  • Naso-Labial Folds-the lines from the nose to the corners of the lips

  • Cheeks

  • Mouth and Lower Face-"marionette" lines from the corners of the mouth toward the chin.

  • Lip Enhancement

Other areas include: Earlobes, Tear troughs, to correct deformities in the Bridge of the Nose, Jaw Line and Hands.

Types of Fillers

There are several types and brands of facial fillers.
During your consultation you and the physician can decide which filler is right for you, depending on the area being treated and your particular anatomy.

Hyaluronic Acid-Based Fillers

These are safe and natural cosmetic dermal fillers that replace lost volume and restore youthful fullness and contours to the skin. Fillers are injected to smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). These fillers are smooth- consistency gels made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in your skin. These fillers provide a smooth natural look and feel.

They are made of non-animal based hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that already exists in the human body and is used to provide volume and fullness to the skin.

Studies have shown that the average treatment lasts six months or even longer. They contain a unique technology that helps to maintain the effect until the injected material is almost gone. Additional studies have shown that the effect can last up to 18 months following a specific protocal.

Restylane and Juvederm are the two most widely used fillers and are appropriate for most indications.

Restylane

Perlane and Juvederm Ultra Plus are a thicker version of their counterparts and are used when additional volume or strength is needed.

Belotero is a more recent hyaluronic acid designed to smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds

Calcium-Based Fillers

Calcium-based microspheres is another type of filler. This category of filler can last upwards of twelve months, and is best suited for deep dermal injections and may require administration of some local anesthetic prior to treatment.

Radiesse is made of calcium-based micro spheres suspended in a water based gel. It is injected into the skin through a simple and minimally invasive procedure giving you immediate, visible improvement of folds and wrinkles, and providing long-lasting and beautiful results.

Poly-L-lactic Acid-based Fillers

Sculptra Aesthetic works to replace lost collagen in a series of treatments administered by a Sculptra trained physician or nurse. On average, three injection sessions are needed over a period of a few months. Sculptra Aesthetic is different because it gradually and subtly corrects facial wrinkles and can last up to two years.

"There are so many choices. How do I decide which filler is best for me?"

There is no need to decide which filler you prefer before your appointment. During your consultation, you and your clinician will decide which filler is right for you depending on factors such as the location of the area to be treated, the depth of the wrinkles, your age and other factors.
